The toilet paper artist
Our dog Rasta had a great sense of humor and a passion for mischief. She got a kick out of breaking rules. We could always tell when she was about to get a little reckless because she’d get a gleam in her eye. We never knew if we’d find a shoe artfully placed in the middle of our bed, underwear strewn across the basement floor, or a bag of flour spilled all over the furniture.
Our dog Frankie was her best friend, but they were complete opposites. Frankie was a rule-follower, and very eager to please. If Rasta attempted to steal food off the kitchen counter, he’d hurry over and position himself between her and the cabinets, growling out a scolding. He’d get an exasperated look on his face as if he was saying “Rasta, how many times do I have to tell you?”
Rasta’s favorite thing was toilet paper. She’d carefully unravel it from the holder on the wall, and meticulously pull it in different directions to her liking, making elaborate designs throughout the house.
She timed her adventures perfectly, when we were distracted and unlikely to catch her. Poor Frankie. When we walked in the room and discovered her latest Charmin masterpiece, he’d look at us as if to say “I cannot believe she did this.” Rasta would just flash a proud smile.
When we saw Rasta in action, we tried and keep a straight face and tell her no, but really, all you could do was laugh.
